The 3-month-old baby girl identified as Tongtong was being taken for a stroll outside of her home in China by her grandma when an apple fell on the infant’s head, causing extreme swelling and leaving her unconscious.
Tongtong was immediately transferred to a hospital, where doctors diagnosed her with severe head injury, skull fractures, and rupture of blood vessels in the skull.
She underwent surgery to relieve bleeding in her brain, but remains in a coma.
Doctors are unsure if the baby suffered permanent brain damage.
